Lesson: Conditional Type 1 (First Conditional)

What is Conditional Type 1?

The First Conditional is used to talk about real and possible situations in the future. It describes something that can really happen if a certain condition is true. In brief, it’s about future possibilities, plans, or warnings.

Structure

  • If + Present Simple, will + base verb

Example Sentences

Condition (If…)Result (Then…)
If it rains, I will stay at home. (Possible future.)
If I study,I will pass the test. (Real possibility.)
If we hurry, we will catch the bus. (Can really happen.)
If you don’t eat, you will be hungry. (Logical result.)
If they come early, we will start on time. (Possible plan.)

Important Notes

1. The “if” part uses the Present Simple.
❌ Not: If it will rain, I will stay at home.
✅ Correct: If it rains, I will stay at home.

2. The result part uses “will” + base verb.
If I study, I will pass the exam.

3. You can change the order:
– If I study, I will pass the exam. (Use a comma if “if” comes first.)
I will pass the exam if I study.

4. The situation is real and possible, not imaginary.
