Lesson: “Like + ing” in English

What Does “Like + ing” Mean?

When we say like + ing, we talk about enjoying an activity. It tells us what we like doing in general, not just at this moment. For example:

  • I like reading. → (I enjoy reading books.)
  • She likes swimming. → (She enjoys swimming.)

Structure

Subject + like/likes + verb + ing

 Note:
Use “likes” with he/she/it.
Use “like” with I/you/we/they.

When to Use “Like + ing”

1. To talk about hobbies and interests

  • I like playing football.
  • She likes drawing pictures.

2. To talk about general preferences

  • They like eating healthy food.
  • We like traveling to new places.
